The BEST Kind of Deep Tissue Massage: Ashiatsu

If you suffer from body aches, chronic stress, poor circulation, or poor immunity, you may greatly benefit from therapeutic massage. The practice of massage has ancient beginnings, bringing balance to the mind, body, and spirit. But keep in mind that not all massage techniques are created equal. One of the best, but perhaps less well-known, types of massage you can receive is Ashiatsu.

Ashiatsu is a Japanese technique that can provide an effective and therapeutic experience to help manage many conditions. Keep scrolling to learn more about this deep tissue massage style and its many benefits.

Massage Oil and Rose Petals

What is Ashiatsu?

In Japanese, “Ashi” means foot and “Atsu” means pressure. Therefore, Ashiatsu literally means “foot pressure.” This technique is a barefoot massage during which your massage therapist applies deep, broad, consistent pressure with their feet and body weight instead of their hands and arms.

Ashiatsu massage works with gravity rather than against it, which not only helps the receiving client but also helps avoid pain or repetitive use injury for the therapist. In addition to applying more pressure, it applies compression from both above and below, realigning the body.

A cream or oil is used on the body to create a friction-free and relaxing experience. Bars and straps are installed above the massage table in order for the therapist to have balance and keep both client and therapist safe.

The Benefits of Ashiatsu

There are several benefits of this type of deep tissue massage that can make it an even better option than many other deep tissue techniques.

Reduces Pain with Minimal Discomfort

For many people, many styles of deep tissue massage with pointy elbows and thumbs can often be quite an uncomfortable experience, especially when muscles are tight. In this case, SF Active Bodyworks Ashiatsu with Steven Faulkner LMT is the perfect opportunity to relieve tension.

By utilizing the weighted impact of gravity, Ashiatsu therapists can apply up to 3 times the pressure that penetrates deeply, yet evenly into the fascia, so it is not as painful. The broad surface of the foot as a massage tool perfectly contours the body. Clients will benefit from a greater range of motion and tension relief without having to experience temporary intense pain.

Loosens Up Bundled Nerves

Swift strokes along the paraspinal and lumbar muscles can help relieve spasms as well as provide more space for the nerves to pass through. It will also improve circulation of freshly oxygenated blood to the areas being worked on.

Lengthens Muscles

Because the feet and legs allow for long strokes down the length of the body, these movements can significantly elongate shortened muscles. This helps improve mobility and relieve pain. Ashiatsu also frequently incorporates assisted stretching, which can further improve range of movement.

Detoxifies Lymphatic System

In addition to lengthening muscles, the long, fluid strokes of Ashiatsu aid in flushing lymphatic drainage from the body. The lymphatic system removes metabolic waste, a process that is rapidly increased by Ashiatsu massage.

Improves Posture

Ashiatsu can significantly improve posture and range of motion after only a few treatments. Alongside this, due to an improvement in body functionality, muscle pain will decrease With a better sense of balance, the body will move with more ease and less discomfort.
